Flight operations at Delhi airport hit as Dense fog engulfs north India.

Flight activities at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) were affected early Saturday as a blanket of fog lowered visibility to nil in some parts of north India. IndiGo cancelled all the flights to and from its hubs due to the bad weather.

Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), which manages IGIA, posted an update on X (formerly Twitter) at 12:05 AM to say that they have been disrupted. They said that passengers should check with their airline carriers to get further updates on flights and apologized for the inconvenience. Air India also delivered a sad news saying that their flights have been affected and delayed due to low visibility in Delhi and the surrounding areas. More than 400 flights were delayed owing to over 1,300 flight movement in a single day, as per an IGIA official.

After the operations are restored, passengers were told to expect delays because of crowding at airfields. Weather and Road Conditions Apart from that dense fog hampered road transportation also through out Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana states. This was the case because drivers had to be extremely careful when driving especially when they encountered situations where visibility was almost nil, and thus traffic was slow. On Friday, the visibility in Delhi at the IGIA was 0 meters, categorizing the fog as ‘very dense’. The average maximum temperature recorded was 21.2°C which slightly higher than the normal temperatures while the minimum temperature was 7°C.

The IMD said that these weather conditions led to Delhi’s average AQI of 371 in past 24 hours, which falls in the ‘very poor’ category as per CPCB data. Advice for Travelers The crowds are encouraged to act responsively and continue to communicate with their airlines of choice in order to receive up to date information; this coupled with the fact that the delays due to weather have become the norm.
